The Pond was Poppin'

The tide was dead low when I got out today but I rode by the pomd anyway. It is usually best at high tide, when the saltmarsh is too deep to wade.It was wall to wall waders, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Little Blue Herons and White Ibis, plus a Roseate spoonbill out slumming.

After all that criss-crossing the country fundraising for Democrats, he needs a vacation...So far a private bike ride, a personal tour of Cadillac mountain, a stoll though the lower pathway, a trip to get ice cream followed by a boat tour, then off to dinner (I guess it's time rest after plugging the d*mn hole)....Photos

BATH TIME
Posted by admin / Under Photo Card Café
It was hot today. I had a Dr. appointment, About time I got out of there the tide was high. I figured the birds would be headed to the little pond to drink and bathe. They started showing up about the time I did. The Great Egrets like to squat down and soak for a while, then they stand up and shake. When they're down in the water they don't look very big.

Managed a Short Expedition

I hit the trail today, one of the charity thrift shops has a great horde of used books and I was out of reading material. They aren't junky paperbacks like you find some places, these look like new. Coming home I rolled by the county boat ramp. The birds are finishing up nesting season and starting to just hang out again.Too hot for an old man to stay long! Great Egret, Ardea alba

Amateur photo of Comet McNaught passing by distant galaxy
Posted by admin / Under Photo Card Café
One wonders... Did the inhabitants of galaxy NGC 891 duck when Comet McNaught flew past the edge-on spiral on the morning of June 8th? Mike O'Connor and Tristan Dilapo took this picture of the cosmic close encounter from Colden, New York: (click on photo to enlarge) "The comet was only 10 degrees above the horizon," says O'Connor. "Nevertheless, we got a good picture using a 12-inch telescope and an SBIG ST9-E camera."And, no, the denizens of that distant galaxy did not flinch, flee, duck or take notice in any way. NGC 891 is 30 million light years away, far removed...

TEMECULA, Calif. -- An angry father is accused of using a stun gun on a 23 year old man who sent his 17 year old daughter an explicit cell phone picture. William Atwood Sr., 45, was charged Wednesday with multiple felonies in connection with the case. Authorities say Atwood lured Justin Moore to his home, ordered him to strip down to his boxer shorts, and tied him up and tased him with a stun gun before turning him over to a sheriff's deputy. Moore told authorities he sent a photo of his genitals to several friends, including Atwood's daughter, as...

ROSES
Posted by admin / Under Photo Card Café
The pink rose is a wild Swamp Rose that grows in my yard. They will gradually take over but they're pretty and smell great. Domestic roses don't survive here without endless care. You cut the wild rose back with a lawnmower once a year to create new growth and stand back! The tame rose is one I shot from the car in town.
